With Wall Street in unprecedented territory, nothing is certain. When people get scared, we like to revert back to the familiar – whether it’s an ex-girlfriend, your mother’s mac and cheese, or that darned security blanket. Fashion is no exception. With financial disasters abounding, formal affairs are becoming more refined and dignified than ever. Gone are the daringly dramatic coats or contemporary tie contrasts; in are established classics such as the black tie, top coat, and high-cut pants. People want security, and who better to give it to them than a man in a suit?
What to Wear if You Sport that Beer Gut

When purchasing jeans or pants, you want to make sure you do yourself (and others) a huge courtesy and stay away from pants that sit right at your waist. This will tend to cup your belly and actually pronounce its size. Certainly that is something no one wants, but more importantly it provides you with the confidence that you look good. One less thing to worry about is always good.
Do not buy a pair of pants that sit so low on you that when you sit down you expose your "crackside". Remember, your a bro not a plumber. The answer to this is to wear a pant style that is slightly low rise. Also, boot-cut style may help reduce your bellies appearance. This style of jean offers the illusion that your stomach is actually smaller because of the natural flare by the ankles.
Avoid jackets that sit right at your waist. This is putting a target on your belly because eyes tend to focus on where the jacket ends. Wearing longer fitting jackets that possess some flare will likely cause eyes to focus on your style rather than your shape. This will offer your waist and belly area a cinched look.
Prioritize Like a Pro

The more important factor is how well you prioritize. So, we didn’t even want to bring this up. But we feel like we need to put it out there. If you are ever, we repeat, ever, in a situation in which you feel it is appropriate to pair socks with sandals, please dunk your head into a bucket of ice water, slap yourself around for a few minutes, and re-start. This combination is never, ever okay.

But slim-cut ties are the perfect way to add some fun to an otherwise-boring professional ensemble. No matter what your job is, it’s pretty hard to keep yourself in fun designs 24/7. Like several other fashion trends, everything old is new again when it comes to telling time. Vintage watches are all the rage in fashion meccas from NYC to London to Milan. Show that you’re in the know with a retro timepiece. Classics by Rolex or Cartier are always a solid choice, but you may find real gems by searching on your own in antique shops or vintage jewelry stores. Sure, summer 2009 is still many long, cold months away. But it’s never too early to start preparing your closet for summer trends. Casual wear will build up to a more refined, genteel look – think satins, silks, and ruches to wear on the pool deck or the beach. Leather and denim combos paired with 80s flair are also making their way onto the runway for the season, a throwback to the rock ‘n roll era. Boxy, cropped jackets paired with slim-cut pants will be a popular look, and the color of the season will be strong, assertive blues – cobalt and slate will be staples.

Add a Little Plaid

Hot on the 08-09 runways is an oldie but a goodie: plaid! You may not be daring enough to attempt a full-on plaid suit, but you can easily add a little plaid to your wardrobe on any given day. Pair a plaid tie with a solid shirt. Try a skinny tie for a casual, low-key day, or a typical plaid tie for a more conservative occasion. For the best results, try a blue or green-hued plaid against a solid white or black. More adventurous Bros should pair a subtle plaid with a striped or patterned button-down. Just be sure the patterns aren’t too similar – don’t do diamond-shaped plaid with a diamond-patterned shirt, don’t mix stripes with stripes, etc. Try red plaids against blue or black stripes or blue/black stripes.
