The Bro Diet: It Does A Body Good

As a multi-tasking professional, you probably don’t have the time to devote to preparing four-course meals. But we’re here to help you make decisions that keep you fueled and keep you eating well. The top two causes of death for men are heart disease and cancer. A healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce your risk of developing a life-threatening disease. So here’s a primer:
Snacks Make The Man – Mindless munching. What are you nibbling on as you surf the ‘net, watch the game, or catch a movie? High-calorie, processed foods like chips and pretzels may not affect your figure just yet, but they do have an impact on your insides. Switch the Doritos and onion rings out for granola bars, fruits, and vegetables. By having a supply of fresh produce and healthy snack foods like raisins or energy bars around, you’ll start making healthier eating choices.
Get Those Omega-3’s – Fish such as salmon, sardines, and tuna are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These fats help your internal organs function efficiently and can reduce your risk for a host of health problems, including cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Go Whole Grain – Are you a PB & J guy? No need to lose this Bro favorite. Just switch to healthier alternative ingredients. Substitute wheat for white and natural peanut butter – or almond butter – for your typical spread. If you’re really feeling adventurous and nutrition-savvy, try preserves in place of jelly.
It’s All About the Veggies – No matter the color, vegetables play a key role in reducing disease. So-called “cruciferous” vegetables – broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, etc. – may prevent everything from bladder cancer to heart disease. Meanwhile, red or orange flavored foods are rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C. Stock up on red bell peppers and try to get a few servings of carrots or sweet potatoes each week.

Like so many other things on this site, this article hits close to home. When I am out golfing I always make sure to have either banana's or granola bars with me. While snickers may taste a bit better, it just slows me down later with all the fat. I like to walk the course as often as I can and banana's alway help with their potassium.
