Bro's Before Ho's? Hmmm...

Gorgeous Blonde in Lingerie

You’ve heard the saying, but does it apply to real life? Not in every situation. It’s definitely bad juju to ditch your best dudes for a girl you’ve been seeing. But it’s also uncool to stiff your best gal for the guys, time and time again. Here are some tips for playing it cool and keeping the peace – cause you do not want to be dealing with bro-drama while trying to keep your professional cool.

  1. Everything in moderation. Make sure your schedule isn’t built around one other person, whether it’s your girl, your best bro, or your mom (but seriously, we hope it’s not your mom). Try to hang out with all of the people you want to spend time with, but don’t let one group monopolize all of your time and resources. That’s the sign of an unhealthy relationship.
  2. Ask yourself what is really important. When making a decision for your Friday night plans, be sure to consider the consequences of your actions instead of just making a gut decision. Sure, you’d rather eat pizza with the guys than take your girlfriend to her work party – but in the long run, you’ll have many more opportunities to chill with your guy friends than you will to help your babe make a good impression at a social event. On the other hand, if the girl you’re seeing invites you over, but you’ve got a prior commitment with the bros, go with the bros. Relationships come and go. You don’t want to flake on your best friends for some random chick you’re hooking up with.
  3. Mix with caution. Many unfortunate brothers make the tragic bro-ho mistake. They try to mix their bros with their hoes, to disastrous results. Simply put, just because you like your bros and you like your hoes does not mean they will like each other. Chances are, your girl does not want to spend hours in someone’s basement chugging beer, watching ESPN, and talking about other babes. Likewise, there are very few situations in which bros would to partake in an afternoon excursion with your ho– can you really see them wanting to tag along shopping, getting a manicure, or catching a chick flick? There are some (not a lot, but a few) circumstances under which conditions are favorable for bro-ho mingling. These situations include, but are not limited to, bars (make sure there’s no cover for bros, though), apartment parties (where all guests, bros and hoes, know the host), and certain social/athletic outings (beach volleyball, surfing, picnics).

The great Bro-Ho conundrum has baffled bros for centuries. We’ll devote more time on it at Brofessional, but this is a good place to start.

Good Will Hunting?

Sam nice one! You just busted out a Good Will reference. That movie rocked. Great referencing point for how close great friends can be.

Say It Ain't So!

Relationships come and go, especially for a business guy on the go. I always wanted my cake and tried to eat it too, mostly to no avail. My best friends supersede everything only because they have been there for me in the past and will be there for me in the future. Like that saying in Good Will Hunting, "they would take a bat to your head if he asked them to." That is how best bro's are. Yes, we have all made that mistake of choosing the ho over the bro but the reality is the bro's always take you back. The ho, however, can 180° your butt right out the door. Lesson learned. Move on.
