Hits of Fashion Week

Fashion Week 2008 has come and gone, and we’re all a little wiser for it. Here were the hottest hits on the New York runways this season:

Style favorite Marc Jacobs impressed with a surprising throwback to grunge, complete with paisleys, linens, and other erstwhile fabrics that spiced up an old look and brought it full throttle as we speed into 2009. This spring, look for vintage prints and cloths from the Jacobs collection.

Dolce & Gabbana travelled even further back in time with clothes a la classic film stars, such as legendary Cary Grant. And you thought you’d never see an espadrille again. The underlying theme was complemented by silks and contrasts.

Gilded Age’s spring preview focused more on the process and artistry behind the clothes than the actual pieces themselves. While perennial standards such as V-neck shirts and cardigans filled the show, designer Stefan Miljanic brought a new edge to the table with his custom production processes. Organic dyes, multiple-dip procedures, and custom double-faced designs are de rigueuer for the brand.

On the European front, Burberry Prorsum stood out by staying minimalist, with lots of earthy, neutral tones such as moss and pewter. Prorsum designers insist the focus was intended to be on the brand’s delicious outerwear pieces, such as lightweight, mid-thigh blazers and overcoats.

Much like the retro watches, some things never seem to go out of style. I am a big fan of grunge and wore the style myself back in my younger days HAH! I just love that most things seem to be in one day, out the next, then come back seemingly better than before.
