How to Look Stylin in a Slim Cut Suit
Designers from Ralph Lauren to Ferregamo to Valentino had one thing in common when they hit the runway this spring: their suits were skinny. Slim-fitting suits are the new rage across the international stage. While the fit can present a challenge for men with specific body types, there are tricks you can use to ensure you look good in a slim cut, regardless of your figure.
Tall & lanky – Slim-cuts are made for people like you. You can wear pretty much any type of slim-fitting suit, especially the ultra-skinny ones from the Dior Homme collection. Most people can’t get away with these – but you can! Prada and Gucci also make suits that will look sharp on your frame.
Broad shoulders – Again, you can find success with several designers. The slimmest of the slim include American Calvin Klein cuts and the previously-mentioned Dior Homme. The Klein cuts will look best on big-shouldered bros with smaller waists.
Broad torso – Guys with big chests and an overall broader frame may find traditional slim-cut suits unflattering. Try generously-cut designs by Hugo Boss or Gucci to find the look that suits you. Avoid tiny “skinny ties” because they will make the ensemble look unbalanced.
The most important thing to remember in procuring a new suit is to buy what looks good in the mirror. Just because a trend is hot on the runway does not mean you have to sacrifice personal style. Since fashion is such a dynamic entity, there are always going to be looks that don’t work with your particular body type. You’ll look and feel much better in a design that flatters your form rather than an ill-fitting but trendy cut.
