John Mayer

While he’s often mentioned in news and tabloid articles for his female companions, John Mayer is a man of varied interests, talents, and experiences. Singer, songwriter, activist, writer, philanthropist – JM’s got a lot more going on that the press gives him credit for. Never content as just another face in the crowd, Mayer’s distinctive style and unique talents have propelled him to the international sensation he is today.

Born and raised in Connecticut, John took up the guitar as a 13-year-old, writing his eventual Room for Squares material about a high school sweetheart. He followed his musical passion to the acclaimed Berklee College of Music, but moved to Atlanta after two semesters to live and perform, frequently playing coffee house and club gigs. Mayer’s big break came via South by Southwest 2000, and the rest is history. He’s collaborated with B.B. King and Eric Clapton, won Grammy Awards, and recorded platinum records. What’s even cooler about John is that he hasn’t let the fame and fortune go to his head. Rather, he tries to give back all the time, whether it’s writing about his friendship with a chronically ill 4-year-old on his blog, advocating for green lifestyles, or raising money for his “Back to You” foundation, which channels resources into the areas of healthcare, education, and artistic development.

John also hasn’t given up his other interests. He performs the occasional stand-up gig to release excess creative energy, has written for Esquire, and maintains a photography blog online. Moreover, he has designed everything from guitars to t-shirts to sneakers. Through it all, his casual yet sleek fashion sense is apparent no matter where you see him – rolling off a red-eye flight between his homes in LA and NYC, romancing one of his gorgeous Hollywood flings, or rocking out on stage.

Give Him Props

I'll tell you what, John Mayer is sick. His music is a bit on the soft side but when you get him playing with Clapton and the other big boys he can jam. I don't own any of his music but I have to respect what he can do and who he hangs out with. Plus he is just a good guy. Hard to hate on that.

  • One of the main differences between a novice and an expert is prioritization.

  • You may not be wearing the appropriate size suit. Most men wear suits that are actually too large or too small for them.

  • So, we didn’t even want to bring this up. But we feel like we need to put it out there.

  • So you’ve heard about these skinny ties. Maybe you’re a little skeptical.

  • Like several other fashion trends, everything old is new again when it comes to telling time.

  • Sure, summer 2009 is still many long, cold months away.

  • If you took just one hint from the NYC Fashion Week runway, it should be simple: think striped.

  • Hot on the 08-09 runways is an oldie but a goodie: plaid!

  • When it comes to ties in 2008, less is more.

  • With Wall Street in unprecedented territory, nothing is certain. When people get scared, we like to revert back to the familiar – whether it’s an ex-girlfriend, your mother’s mac and cheese, or that darned security blanket.
