Professional Style Trends: Stripes

If you took just one hint from the NYC Fashion Week runway, it should be simple: think striped. Stripes were everywhere, from backstage to front page to after parties galore. Every designer seemed to showcase a special collection as a tribute to striped attire. From vertical to horizontal to diagonal, stripes flowed in all directions. From the fresh (Justin Timberlake’s WilliamRast line) to the tried and fabulous (Marc Jacobs), designers simply couldn’t get enough of piped patterns. If there was a trend, it was that there was no trend. Patterns big and small held court alike, with teeny eyestrain-inducing striped shirts, bold, wide-leg striped pants, and patterned accessories appearing everywhere. As we look forward to winter and spring, stock up on suits and ties that employ pinstripes or patterns.
