Shepard Fairey

What do you get when you mix art, fashion, and political activism with entrepreneurial savvy? Shepard Fairey, the graphic designer/fashion mogul/illustrator extraordinaire. Fairey hails from South Carolina, but he got his true academic start at the ultimate art school, Rhode Island School of Design. While at RISD, this bro designed an illustration and executed a killer sticker campaign, “Andre the Giant has a Posse.” Throughout the 80s and 90s, tens of thousands of Fairey’s piece proliferated throughout both the skateboarding community and the world. Recognized as one of the major street art talents of our time, Fairey is known as a force to be reckoned with.
Fairey has never been one to accept the status quo or sacrifice individuality. Instead, he’s a rebel – with a cause. Much of Fairey’s work displays an activist bent, and he works tirelessly to promote awareness to various issues. Fairey’s individualism and unique, classy style are hallmarks of today’s ultimate Brofessional. Fairey’s work can be seen everywhere in pop culture –cover art on CDs by The Smashing Pumpkins or Flogging Molly, video game loading screens, anti-war materials, documentaries, and even a reference to Andre the Giant on Family Guy. He has co-founded various companies such as BLK/MRKT design studio, Swindle magazine, and Studio Number One graphic design agency. He’s also had his own show at the Jonathan LeVine gallery, and works for organizations such as Rock the Vote and Reaching to Embrace the Arts, a foundation that provides art supplies for underprivileged students. Through it all, he’s never lost his inimitable sense of style or playful personality. He regularly spins as a guest DJ at top LA spots, where he currently resides with his wife and two daughters. Style, charisma, and a strong work ethic put this Bro at the top of his game.
